Goldy Brar’s aide held after exchange of fire in Mohali

Gangster Malkiat alias Maxi, who was allegedly involved in an extortion racket, has a criminal history and has been booked in several cases in the past, the police said.

An alleged member of the Goldy Brar and Goldy Dhillon gangs was arrested in Punjab’s Mohali on Saturday after he got injured following a brief exchange of fire with the police.

Gangster Malkiat alias Maxi was arrested by the Mohali police, in a joint operation with the Anti-Gangster Task Force, from near Ghaggar bridge on the Zirakpur-Ambala Highway, the police said, adding that they also recovered a .32 bore pistol from him.

Malkiat was in jail following his arrest in another case and was brought on a production warrant when the incident occurred.

“In an attempt to flee from the custody, he opened fire on the police team, in self-defence and retaliatory fire by the police team, Maxi sustained a bullet injury in his left leg fire and has been shifted to Civil Hospital, Mohali for medical treatment,” Gaurav Yadav, Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, said on X.

He added that Malkiat, a resident of Rodala village in Rajasansi near Amritsar, is involved in an extortion racket led by Brar and Dhillon. In January this year, they allegedly targeted a Mohali-based property dealer and demanded Rs 50 lakh from him as extortion money.

Malkiat has a criminal history with extortion cases and cases under the Arms Act registered against him, the police said.
