Gold prices have touched an all-time high in Chandigarh, with the 24-carat variety selling for Rs 1,26,000 per 10 grams on Sunday. Whereas, the rate for 22-carat gold rose to Rs 1,15,900 per 10 grams. The prices of gold have steadily increased over the last few days, with the yellow metal (10 grams of 24-carat gold) recording Rs 1,25,500 on Friday. Jewellers in the Tricity said they were expecting gold to become dearer by Dhanteras. Rajeev Sahdev, President, Chandigarh Jewellers Association, told The Indian Express that 24-carat gold prices may soar up to Rs 1.30 lakh per 10 grams by Dhanteras. Last Diwali, the rate was Rs 80,000, while it was Rs 55,000 in 2023. “The high prices won’t dampen the spirits as people who have to purchase gold will do so on Dhanteras even if they buy half of the usual quantity,” Sahdev said. Cracker stalls from October 18 The Chandigarh administration has allowed crackers to be sold only at designated sites in the city from October 18 onwards. The designated sites are in Sector 24 (Near Balmiki temple), Sector 28 (near the gurdwara), and Sectors 29, 30, 33, and 37, in addition to Sectors 43, 46, 49 and 4. As many as 95 cracker dealers have got licences this time. The administration has completely banned the online sale of crackers in Chandigarh and permitted the sale of green crackers from the designated sites. Bursting of crackers has been allowed for a two-hour period between 8 pm and 10 pm on Diwali.
