Gohana will be Haryana’s 23rd district as soon as norms are fulfilled: CM
Nayab Singh Saini said that a committee has been formed for the formation of new districts

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday announced that the BJP government will make Gohana a separate district as soon as it fulfills norms meant for a district. If the proposal gets a final approval, Gohana, currently a part of Sonipat district and shares its borders with the national capital, will be the state’s 23rd district.
While addressing an event at Gohana, Saini said that a committee has been formed for the formation of new districts. “There are some norms for a new district and as soon as the norms are fulfilled, our government will make Gohana a separate district,” he said.
A government official said it requires more than four lakh population, 80,000 hectares of land, over 125 villages, 1-2 sub divisions and 1-3 tehsils. “The distance of the proposed district from the existing district headquarter or a neighbouring district should be around 25-40 km,” the officials said, adding that these norms change from time to time.
A committee was recently formed under the chairmanship of state agriculture minister Kanwar Pal Gurjar. Gurjar was also a member of an older committee formed under the previous government, which discussed the issue in 2020. Gurjar told The Indian Express that when discussed earlier, Gohana was not fulfilling the conditions. “We will discuss it again whenever a meeting is held for this. As of now, we have not fixed the next meeting,” he said.
