A 20-year-old girl died after falling from the fifth floor of Government Medical College and Hospital Sector 32 today morning.

According to hospital authorities, the girl was discovered to have fallen from the fifth floor at around 9.15 am. When the hospital staff informed the police, they discovered that the girl,Aanchal,a resident of Chandigarh Sector 46,was reported missing from her residence on Friday night by her parents who had registered a police complaint, following which a search was conducted but she could not be located.

It is still not clear whether Aanchal was a patient at the hospital or not. “The girl was not undergoing any treatment here as we have not found her to be registered anywhere so far, although we are seeking information from all departments, including psychiatry,on whether she was a patient or attendant,” said an official from the hospital.

The girl was taken to the emergency ward and the police was called by the hospital authorities. She had sustained head and lower limb injuries and was being monitored and had not gained consciousness till 2.15 pm when she finally succumbed to her injuries.

“An eye witness has claimed to have seen Aanchal jump on her own,so foul play is ruled out. Her mother has confirmed that she was mentally disturbed and was seeking treatment with a local doctor,” said SHO at police station 34,Kirpal Singh.
