The authorities on Saturday took stock of the bandh breach repair work at Sidhani village within the limits of Chandpura embankment (Haryana). The work of plugging the Ghaggar bandh breach is going on in full swing by the drainage department and the Army. Budhlada MLA Budh Ram, Faridkot Range Divisional Commissioner Chander Gaind and Mansa Deputy Commissioner Rishipal Singh reviewed the ongoing embankment repair work at Sidhani village and issued orders to the Army and drainage department personnel to expedite the work. Even though the Chandpura embankment is in Haryana, it is maintained by the Punjab government. Information revealed that out of the total 180 feet wide breach at this point, 70 feet breach has been plugged due to which the flood situation in villages has started improving. Budh Ram said that teams have been formed for relief work in the villages, and he himself is supervising it. Chander Gaind said, “Nearby villages have been affected due to the 180-foot-wide bandh breach in Ghaggar river at Chandpura. The administration is providing necessary machinery, soil, cardboard and other necessary equipment for the embankment repair work.” Rishipal Singh said, “About 70 feet of the 180 feet gap near Chandpura has been bridged and the entire breach will be plugged soon.” The district administration is providing all the necessary assistance for the embankment repair work, he added. He said that at Sadhuwala village, the water level has receded giving the much-needed respite to people. Rishipal Singh said that 500 people at sub division Sardulgarh and 290 people at Budhlada have been moved to relief camps. Ten camps have been set up at Sardulgarh and 11 at Budhlada. A total of 246 animals are in Sardulgarh camp and 30 at Budhlada. Similarly, there are nine medical teams at Sardulgarh and two rapid response teams. At Budhlada, there are 13 medical teams and two rapid response teams. Ten veterinary teams are deputed at Sardulgarh and four at Budhlada, said the deputy commissioner. Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Showkat Ahmad Parray, SDM Budhlada Pramod Singla, Assistant Commissioner (G) Harjinder Singh Jassal, District Planning Board Chairman Charanjit Singh Akkanwali, XEN Drainage Saroop Singh, BDPO Sukhwinder Singh, Army and civil administration officials were present.
