A Check conducted by Mayor Kamlesh at the dumping ground of Dadumajra has exposed large amounts of inert garbage being dumped back into the area from the Solid Waste Management Plant.
At this rate,it wont be too long before the dumping ground is completely filled up,the mayor stated on Tuesday expressing concern at the condition of the site.
The Mayor, who inspected the dumping ground two days ago,was accompanied by officials of the MC.
They witnessed trolleys from the plant tossing garbage into the dump.
The company had stated 10 to 15 per cent inerts would be produced and dumped back. For this,an area had been allocated in the dumping ground. However, the garbage being dumped is much higher. The whole area is filled with garbage and it will not take long for the dump to get filled, Kamlesh said.
She also raised questions over the efficiency of the plants functioning. No account is being maintained of the vehicles entering the dumping ground and a need was felt to deploy an official to maintain a check at the dumping ground, she added.
With the city hard pressed for space to dump garbage, the idea of starting the plant was mooted .
But ever since its inauguration last year, questions have been raised over the functioning of the plant.
The MC has meanwhile, extended the date of the hearing of the company until August, since the company has sought more time to find an agency to certify its functioning.
The Mayor also inspected the Sewerage Treatment Plant at Diggian. A new technology at a cost of Rs 30 crore will be introduced here to check the foul smell emanating from the site.
