Gang selling bank accounts, SIM cards to Philippines-based cyber fraudsters busted
Police said the gang, comprising Pankaj, Arshdeep and Manga Singh, all residents of Patiala, would lure innocent youngsters for opening salary accounts in their names for a fictitious new job, and the gang would keep ATM cards and net banking details of those accounts.

Police said the gang has so far sent around 50 SIMs through couriers to the Philippines.The cyber crime team busted a gang involved in providing bank accounts and mobile SIM cards to the Philippines-based cyber fraudsters and arrested four of its members so far, Patiala police said on Tuesday.
Police said the gang, comprising Pankaj, Arshdeep and Manga Singh, all residents of Patiala, would lure innocent youngsters for opening salary accounts in their names for a fictitious new job, and the gang would keep ATM cards and net banking details of those accounts.
Police said the gang would sell bank accounts with their net banking details to the Philippines-based cyber fraudsters Babu and Sumi, also of Punjab origin. One saving bank account would be sold for Rs 10,000 and a current bank account for Rs 40,000, police said, adding that the gang has so far sold more than 30 such bank accounts to fraudsters, enabling them to route fraud money to the tune of crores of rupees in a few months.
Police said the gang operated an unauthorised de-addiction centre on the Chaura Road in Patiala for some time and would lure addicts with Rs 500 per SIM into buying new SIMs in their names and provide those SIMs to the gang. The gang would further sell those SIMs to the Philippines-based cyber fraudsters and send the SIMs to the Philippines through courier, police said.
Police said the gang has so far sent around 50 SIMs through couriers to the Philippines. These SIMs are used by cyber fraudsters to call innocent people in India for committing cyber fraud, police said, adding that all these SIM cards were purchased from a single shop without proper verifications.
