With the arrest of four men the Mohali district police on Wednesday claimed to have busted another gang of robbers active in this part of the region. This is the second gang of robbers busted in the last two days. On Monday,a six-member inter-state gang of armed robbers was busted. Disclosing this,here today,Mohali SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the gang busted today was involved in the breaking of locked houses and shops. The arrested gangsters,in the age group of 19-20 years,were identified as Manoj Kumar of Kajheri (UT),Deepak Gupta of Kanpur (UP),Nitesh Kumar of Indore (MP) and Behan Kumar of Kathiar (Bihar). He said during preliminary interrogation,the gangsters have confessed to committing thefts at various houses and shops in Mohali,Chandigarh and other areas in the tricity and a cache of stolen property was recovered from them. Further custodial interrogation is expected to solve more cases of robberies and recovery of more stolen property, hoped Bhullar. On Monday,the district police had foiled a bid to rob a Bharti-Wallmart companys Best Price departmental store in Zirakpur with the arrest of six armed robbers. A .315 bore country-made pistol,3 live cartridges,3 daggers,an iron rod and two motorcycles bearing fake registration numbers had been recovered from the gangsters,who had initially confessed to several armed strikes in different parts of the region during the recent past. Cash of Rs 73,000 was also recovered. The breakthrough was achieved at Panchkula Chowk in Zirakpur last night when on a tip-off,a CIA team of the district police nabbed the gangsters,who were planning to commit a daring robbery at the mutli-crore investment store. Those arrested were identified as Gurbachan Singh (29) of Rajpura,Varinder Pal alias Ajay (24) of Amloh,Harjinder Singh alias Biloo (21),Manjit Singh alias Kala (34),Kuldeep Singh (21),all from Ranimajra in Lalru and Jagdeep Singh alias Johny (22) of Rahon Kalan in Khanna. During preliminary interrogation,Kala,Kuldeep and Billa had confessed of snatching Rs 1 lakh from Supreme Poultry Farm at Ranimajra. One of the recovered motorcycles was snatched by Gurbachan few days back from Ghanaur. In 2008,Gurbachan along with Kuldeep had robbed a hardware shop dealer in Bassi Pathana of cash. Just two months back,Gurbachan,Varinder and their another accomplice a Morinda resident,who has gone abroad now,had tried to snatch cash from a money exchange person but had failed. Varinder,who was working as accountant with an iron firm had hatched a plan with Gurbachan and Harjinder to kidnap son of a leading industrialist from Mandi Gobindgarh but had so far failed to carry out the plan,said SSP. He said Johny had already undergone imprisonment for committing robberies at liquor vends in Amloh and Khamano and had recently walked out of Patiala Central Jail.
