‘Gandhi was alone in his battle for independence,so am I’

Besides Congress candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal and RJD’s Haffiz Anwar-ul-Haq,two Independents also filed their nominations today,besides three covering candidates.

Besides Congress candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal and RJD’s Haffiz Anwar-ul-Haq,two Independents also filed their nominations today,besides three covering candidates.

Desh Raj,a 43-year-old resident of Burail is one of Independents. Accompanied by a handful of supporters,just enough to back up his nomination,Raj appeared to be full of confidence. Though he has worked for the both the Congress and RJD,Raj said none have done enough for the development of the city.

“Mahatma Gandhi was alone when he started the battle for independence and so am I. The basic needs of people including food,clothing and shelter,need to be fulfilled. I have spent 30 years in the city and served the people,” said Raj,who owns a booth where tailoring material is sold.

The other Independent,Giani Gurcharan Singh,is a resident of Industrial Area.

The 76-year-old claims there have been only two Giani’s in the country,the other besides him being former president Giani Zail Singh.

He stated that he would fight till the end and turn Chandigarh into Paris.
