‘Education system should be physically feasible, economically viable and socially acceptable’
In the present dynamic and changing environment,it’s become important that the field of education keeps space for creativity while battling with the competition and flood of information and technology. This was the consensus at a panel discussion of ‘New Challenges to Education’ organised at the Press Club today. “The onslaught of information technology and the rush for scoring high is taking its toll on creativity. We need to keep a more open model of classrooms so that there is room for creativity,” reflected Arvinder Kaur,a professor of English and a communication specialist, stressing on the need to bridge the gap between practical and theoretical knowledge. “We need to have an education system that is physically feasible, economically viable and socially acceptable,” she added that while the importance of English could not be undermined, efforts of the teachers should be to never lose the India socio-cultural context in teaching the language. Renee Singh, educational counsellor, said it was most important to keep the aptitude of the students in mind while writer and journalist Nirupama Dutt felt that the young today were making rapid progress as the learning processes were faster, but the pressures on students should be decreased. Among the panelists were Amit Sharma and Sandeep Choudhary, founders of The Future India (TFI) Group that held this discussion as part of the celebrations to mark the birth anniversary of Jawahar Lal Nehru. A youth tabloid called Future Express was also launched on the occasion to mark the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister,Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru by the Future India Group. Brainchild of two young enthusiasts,Amit Sharma and Sandeep Choudhary, the tabloid Future Express targets the young to get their creative juices flowing. Graduates in business administration and IT,both of them feel that it is essential to bring out a paper that caters particularly to the youth brigade. “Future Express will have features and articles on career, education,IT,entertainment and all the things that define youth,” informed Sandeep. The duo is visiting colleges and schools to ‘market’ the paper which can be subscribed for a six-monthly or yearly subscription.
