‘Fusion of Ayurved,allopathy can create magic’

Chief Information Commissioner Punjab R I Singh today inaugurated the two-day national conference NIMACON-2010 at Government Medical College-32. The conference has been organized by the Chandigarh chapter of National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA).

In his welcome address,Dr Ashok K Sharma,Chairman,NIMA Chandigarh Chapter,said,“The ancient Indian civilization has been a beacon of light for the universe. Ancient Indian universities like Nalanda attracted students from all over the world. One science which spread and became universal was Ayurveda. Ayurveda has deep roots in the psyche and ethos of the Indian people,catered to the health needs of Indians for centuries. But,today India is the capital of Diabetes and Cardiac diseases. Lifestyle related diseases are also increasing day by day. Ayurveda can provide solution to the deteriorating health situation of the country.”

He further emphasised that integration of ancient Ayurveda and modern Allopathy can create a wonderful solution to the existing health problems. Through a rational combination of Ayurveda and modern medical sciences we can treat many diseases in a better and effective manner.

It was deliberated at the NIMACON that in acute infections and other acute problems,Allopathy is the system of choice but once the acute symptoms disappear,people may switch over to Ayurvedic medicines. Like in hyperactivity,initial treatment may be from Allopathy and then we can treat the patients according the Ayurvedic theory of Vat,Pit and Kaf for long lasting effect and eradication of cause. Another example can be Arthritis cases,where anti-inflammatory drugs are urgently needed,can be treated with Ayurvedic methods of Panchkarma.

Many renowned doctors addressed the conference including Vascular Surgeon Dr Ravul Jindal and Renal Transplant Specialist Dr Arijinder Singh,both from Fortis Hospital,Mohali,besides Dr Anil Narang,Dr Deepak Kaura,Dr Rajeev Bedi and Deepika Gunwant among others. Dr Raj Bahadur,Director Principal of GMCH-32,will also address the gathering.

Dr SPS Grewal,Managing Director of Grewal Eye Institute,emphasised on the building of long term relationship between doctor and patient by instilling confidence in them. “An important part of good health care is a good relationship between you and your doctor. You must be able to communicate well with each other so your needs are met,” he said.
