A fruit seller,on his way home on Tuesday night, was stabbed to death by two unidentified assailants near Dadumajra Colony.
The victim,Rajesh, was robbed of cash and valuables before he was killed, the police said. The police are probing whether prior enmity or robbery was the motive of the murder.
The victim was apparently dragged to a secluded area before he was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon.
The police said the accused stopped Rajesh near the abandoned four-storey houses near Dadumajra village. Following an altercation, the assailants repeatedly stabbed him.
In his mid-twenties,Rajesh,lived in a rented accommodation with his relatives.
He was a native of Khushi Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. Rajesh is survived by his wife and two minor children.
The victims friend,Nand Kishore, told the police that he went in search of Rajesh and found his rehri on the road with fruits lying scattered nearby.
According to the police,Kishore started looking for his friend and went towards the abandoned houses where he found Rajesh lying in a pool of blood and called the police.
A police control room vehicle reached the spot and shifted Rajesh to the PGI,where he was declared dead on arrival. The doctors attending to him said the artery in Rajeshs thigh was cut in the stabbing, which caused excessive bleeding leading to death.
The police said no cash was found on the victims body, which indicated that the killers had taken away his money and belongings.
The body was handed over to the family after postmortem on Wednesday.
A case of attempt to murder was registered initially but Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC were invoked after the victim was pronounced dead.
