From twenty20 to traffic norms: Gilchrist apprises commuters

UT Traffic Police on Monday got cricketer Adam Gilchrist to spread traffic awareness in the city.

UT Traffic Police on Monday got cricketer Adam Gilchrist to spread traffic awareness in the city. The former Australian cricketer and captain of Kings XI Punjab,joined the traffic police’s awareness campaign.

SSP (Traffic) Maneesh Chaudhary said,“Gilchrist distributed pamphlets of on traffic safety to city residents at the JW Marriott roundabout”.

Commuters were stopped by the police constables and Gilchrist apprised them about the need to follow traffic rules. To one of the commuters query on whether Gilchrist had ever violated traffic rules,he said “The country I live in,laws are very strict”.

Chaudhary added that the UT Police would try to get more celebrities to join the campaign. “If a celebrity says something,it leaves a lasting impression. Gilchrist said that there is no reason why one should not wear a seat belt or a helmet. It is for our own safety”.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) R P Upadhyaya said,“This was part of an awareness campaign. We hope to leave a strong impression,especially on youngsters”.
