Former CTU conductor gets year in jail for fraud

A local court has convicted a former bus conductor with the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) for embezzlement of funds to the tune of Rs 78,780.

A local court has convicted a former bus conductor with the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) for embezzlement of funds to the tune of Rs 78,780. The court of JMIC Mahesh Kumar today sentenced Surinder Singh to a year’s imprisonment for misappropriation of funds by way of fabricating bills.

According to the prosecution,a case under Sections 409,420,468 and 471 of the IPC was registered on September 9,1993,on the complaint of the then CTU general manager B S Sood. Surinder Singh had tampered with 18 waybills and embezzled an amount of Rs 78,780. After the fraud was discovered,the convict reportedly offered to return the amount and had even paid Rs 20,000.

The court held him guilty under various sections. He was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment and slapped with a Rs 200 fine under Section 409,one year imprisonment and Rs 200 fine under Section 420,one year imprisonment and Rs 200 under Section 468 and six months imprisonment under Section 471 of the IPC. All the punishments will run concurrently.
