Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday again promised that there would be a deputy CM from the Brahmin community if the Congress was voted to power in the elections. The assembly polls in the state are due in October 2024.
Addressing a gathering of the Brahmin community in Rohtak, Hooda said, “As we promised in 2019, one deputy CM will be from the Brahmin community in 2024 also if Congress is voted to power in the state. They (deputy CMs) will be from other communities too like from the Dalit community.”
The latest announcement by Hooda appears to be an attempt to woo Brahmins and members of other communities in the caste-centric politics of Haryana.

Ahead of the 2019 assembly polls, Hooda had promised four deputy CMs from different communities if the Congress returned to power in Haryana.
Hooda, who was honoured by members of the Brahmin community in Rohtak, said, “The Brahmin community was always given proper representation in the government and bureaucracy during the Congress government and the Congress will provide proper representation to them in future too. If voted to power in 2024 assembly polls, we will restore reservation in jobs for the Brahmin community under EWS category, implement the law regarding land ownership of ‘dholidars’, and create a strong Brahmin Commission.”
The persons from the Brahmin community who got land as a gift from big landowners decades ago are known as ‘dholidars’.
Meanwhile, addressing a “Jan Milan Programme” in Jind Sunday, Hooda expressed confidence that “the Congress is going to form the government in Haryana with full majority”.

Today, thousands of people have strengthened Congress with their energy. Congress will dedicate this energy of the people to development and public service.”
