Fog continues to play havoc; Punjab,Haryana shiver

A thick blanket of fog engulfed various parts of Punjab and Haryana on Sunday,affecting air,road and rail traffic due to low visibility,with mercury plummeting to three degrees Celsius below normal.

A thick blanket of fog engulfed various parts of Punjab and Haryana on Sunday,affecting air,road and rail traffic due to low visibility,with mercury plummeting to three degrees Celsius below normal.

Dense fog threw normal life out of gear as most flights in the region remained suspended and trains ran hours behind schedule,officials said. The minimum temperature hovered between one and three degrees below normal in the region,said the meteorological department.

Amritsar was coldest,registering a low of 2.2 degrees Celsius while Narnaul in Haryana braved three degrees. Patiala shivered at 3.2 degrees,three notches below normal. The minimum temperature in Chandigarh was 3.6 degrees C,followed by Ludhiana (3.7),Karnal (4),Rohtak (4.1),Hisar (4.4) and Ambala (4.5 deg C).

The Met office forecasts a further dip in the temperatures in the next two days.
