The UT District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed SREI Infrastructure Finance Ltd to issue a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) and pay compensation of Rs 25,000 to Sector-40 resident Balwinder Singh for causing harassment and adopting unfair trade practices. Proprietor of DM Construction,Balwinder had purchased an air compressor machine for which he availed a loan of Rs 4,12,500 from SREI Infrastructure while his own contribution was Rs 1,35,000. The monthly instalment was fixed at Rs 15,500 and the complainant repaid the entire loan amount in 2007. Balwinder,however,alleged that the company vide their letter dated March 14,2009 informed him that an amount of Rs 57,429 was due against the machine. He then deposited the amount and the company issued him a receipt stating that it was the final payment. The company also assured him that the NOC would be issued within a week. According to the complaint,he had contacted a buyer for selling the air compressor machine but could not do so as the NOC was not issued and the person cancelled the deal. Balwinder averred that he requested company officials to issue the NOC but instead they demanded an amount of Rs 40,567 which was raised to Rs 74,090 within a month. Harassed,the complainant then filed a complaint in the consumer forum.
