Nearly three months after he allegedly shot dead a youth in Ferozepur,Jasmail Singh,the husband of Congress candidate Satkar Kaur,was finally declared a proclaimed offender by a district court in Ferozepur on Monday. Jasmail and his accomplices stand accused of murdering Nishan Singh outside a polling booth in Ferozepur district,on January 30 and has been absconding since then. HS Mann,Superintendent of Police,Ferozepur,said: Jasmail has been declared a proclaimed offender by the court. He is at large. We have already arrested two of his accomplices. We hope to arrest him soon. Earlier,a probe,conducted by the Ferozepur district police,discovered that the bullet,which hit Nishan Singh,was fired from an unlicensed weapon. The police have failed to locate the weapon a .32 bore revolver. 21-yr-old Nishan was shot dead outside a polling booth at Piaranwala village in the Ferozepur (rural) Assembly constituency on Januray 30. A second year student at a Ferozepur college,he was the only son of his parents. According to his parents,Nishan had no political affiliation and had been an innocent bystander when Jasmail and his accomplices,came in three vehicles and entered into an argument with a group of people. An agitated Jasmail allegedly fired a shot that hit Nishan. While Jasmail fled,Nishan succumbed to his injuries. Over the past three months,the state has transferred the investigation twice. The Ferozepur district police initially probed the case but it was transferred to the state crime branch. Soon as the SAD-BJP combine regained power,however,the probe was transferred back to the district police. Neither of the two investigating agencies,however,have been able to track down Jasmail. The Congress candidates husband is a farmer and runs a vehicle business in Guruharsahai and the nearby areas in Ferozepur district. Talking to Express on phone,Nishans paternal uncle,Sukhdev Singh,said: The district police force has not done anything to nab Jasmail. He is a high-profile man as for his wife,a politician of Rahul Gandhis stature came and campaigned. How could the district police force arrest him? We have met all the senior police officers,but nothing has been done. The accused are still at large and we are the sufferers,who have lost our son and have not got any justice till date.
