A 33-year-old man of Punjab origin gunned down his brother and shot at their mother in New York's Richmond Hill before turning the gun on himself, as per the reports in the US media. Karamjit Multani, a father of three, allegedly entered the room of his brother Vipanpal Multani (27) late Saturday night and opened fire, hitting him in the chest before fleeing, as per the New York Post. Karamjit also shot at his 52-year-old mother, and the bullet grazed past her. The 33-year-old was later found dead with a gunshot wound to his head and a gun next to his body with police suspecting it to be suicide. The mother has been admitted to a hospital. Vipanpal’s father told CBS New York that the family had a dinner of pizza before the incident took place. As Karamjit fired shots, the father, identified as Bhupinder Singh, rushed out to a neighour’s house, who called the police 911. As per the US media reports, that neighbour entered the Multanis’ house and found that Vipanpal was alive at the time. He died a few minutes later. The family hails from Narangpur village in Kapurthala district of Punjab. The entire village was engulfed in grief as news of the incident spread. Former sarpanch Sarabjit Singh Pappal told The Indian Express that Bhupinder Singh was his uncle’s son. Bhupinder with his wife and sons Karamjit and Vipanpal settled in the US a long time ago. Sarabjit Singh said Bhupinder is in shock and still trying to come to terms with the loss he has suffered. Bhupinder told the police and media in the US that he has no idea what led Karamjit to take such an action. He also claimed that the two brothers never had had any problems.
