A day after an SUV,driven in a rash and negligent manner,rammed into a motorcycle resulting in the death of a 17-year-old,the Chandigarh Police has not been able to trace the offending vehicle.
Accused of negligence and causing delay in transporting the injured to a hospital,the Chandigarh Police issued a press release denying accusations leveled by family members.
When asked whether it has been able to make any arrest,the investigating officer of the case,Sub Inspector Devinder Pal said,All we have got to know is that it was a Mahindra XUV. We do not even know the registration number. Neither the injured nor the passerby were able to note down the number.
Mourning the death of the 17-year-old,Megha,her family members said that Megha was a state level boxer and had dreams of making it big in life. She was full of life and inclined towards sports. She always wanted to pursue boxing,which was her passion, said a grieving family member.
Megha was riding pillion on a motorbike when a speeding SUV knocked the class XII student down on Monday. Megha was riding on a newly bought motorbike with her teenaged cousin Gaurav Kumar.
The accident took place on Monday on the dividing road of Sectors 29-30. The Hoshiarpur-based girl breathed her last in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Megha was to celebrate her 18th birthday at her aunts house in Sector 30 on June 22.
In a press release,the Chandigarh Police has claimed that the injured and deceased were taken to the hospital without delay by interceptor (a traffic gypsy).
Claiming that information about an accident was received at around 2.54 pm on Monday,the Police has stated as per an enquiry (conducted to look into allegations of delay) and record of GMCH-32,Chandigarh it is found that all the injured were admitted by the Interceptor Gypsy No. CH01G1-6149 Zullu-5 Incharge SI Satyaveer Singh of traffic staff at 3.08 pm.
