Eye surgeon injured in oxygen cylinder blast

Oxygen cylinder accidentally burst while being used for the treatment of a patient.

A senior doctor working at the Fatehgarh Sahib civil hospital was seriously injured when an oxygen cylinder accidentally burst while being used for the treatment of a patient on Thursday night.

Dr Arvind Pal Singh, a Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) doctor and a renowned eye surgeon, suffered serious eye injuries while he was treating a cardiac patient at the hospital during his night duty.

“The flow of oxygen from the cylinder was less and Arvind Pal tried to adjust it. However, the cylinder accidentally burst due to technical problems and the victim received several injuries, particularly in one of his eyes. He was immediately rushed to PGI where he is undergoing treatment. He is out of danger but his eye has suffered critical damage,” said another doctor at the hospital.
