State Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday sought a probe into reports EVMs being tampered in Amritsar during the municipal polls on June 10. He has also written to the Chief Election Commissioner of India, seeking a detailed investigation about the working of the EVMs and if and how these can be made foolproof.

Referring to reports of EVM tampering by hackers “hired by the Akalis”,Amarinder said: “The Congress in Punjab has been consistently maintaining that the EVMs were not tamper-proof and these can be manipulated and these have been manipulated time and again.”

He added that the Amritsar deputy commissioner had reportedly raised the matter with the State Election Commission for ordering repolling in some wards, where youth were found using wifi and bluetooth to tamper EVMs.

Amarinder said similar incidents were reported even during the Assembly election, when the EVMs were in the custody of state officials.
