The Department of Information and Technology has initiated the process of hiring a service provider to take over the operations of e-sampark centres. Wipro has been hired as the consultant for the purpose. For more than a year, the centres were being managed by Society for Promotion of Information Technology in Chandigarh (SPIC).
The e-sampark centres were managed by SQL Star Solutions when they were started in 2004. The companys contract was till 2009 after which extension was given a number of times in wake of fresh tenders not being invited. The tenders invited last year witnessed a poor response with just one service provider applying. Thereafter the running of the centres was taken over by the IT Department.
The Administration has now decided that by January next year the operations will be handed over to a service provider. While Wipro has submitted a report for the same, discussions are yet to be held.
