3 dacoits nabbed; 13 criminals were involved, had formed team & hatched plot in Dasna jail,UP
Three persons involved in the Tanishq heist case,Bhure Khan,Paras and his brother Manav Soni, were today arrested from Ghaziabad,Uttar Pradesh,by joint teams of the Delhi and Chandigarh Police. Sources disclosed that the cops have also recovered the entire stolen gold and diamond jewellery from the accused. The blanket in which the accused had wrapped the stolen articles have also been recovered from them. They had decamped with jewellery and diamonds worth over Rs 10 crore from the Tanishq showroom in Manimajra. Further raids were on at the time of going to press.
Sources added that the dacoity was committed by 13 persons during the wee hours of January 12. All the accused are members of the Gore Khan gang which is active in the interiors of western Uttar Pradesh. A team of the Delhi Police, which managed to nab the first accused Bhure Khan, received further inputs and nabbed the other two accused in a joint raid with the Chandigarh Police. Another team of the Chandigarh Police Crime Branch led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Satbir Singh, reached Delhi this evening to conduct further raids and bring back the arrested accused to Chandigarh.
The accused had been staying at a rented accommodation in Manimajra since December 23 and had visited the Tanishq showroom a couple of times before striking on January 12. Their preliminary interrogation, conducted by the Delhi and Chandigarh Police, revealed that they had all met at Dasna jail,Uttar Pradesh, where they were lodged for different crimes.
Manav is wanted by the UP Police in cases of killings for extortion. Some of the accused were lodged in jail on charges of burglaries while others faced trials on charges of thefts, besides a few who faced attempt to murder and various other charges as well. Such intrinsic details cannot be divulged at this point of time, said one of the investigating police officials.
It is not that these accused had formed a gang and struck at many places. They had a local contact in Chandigarh who pursued them to strike at the Tanishq showroom in Manimajra, since it is located at a vulnerable location, added another investigating police official.
The accused also revealed that they had done a complete and exhaustive recce of the entire area where the Tanishq showroom is located. We used to go to the showroom during the day and roam around to assess police deployment and movement around the area. We also visited the showroom area and the parking lot in front of it during late night hours and spent time there but the policemen were never visible to us. Thus,we chose the time and struck, one of the arrested accused told Delhi police officials during his interrogation.
How the case was cracked
The Delhi Police, which inspected the Tanishqs showroom, also procured data on the mobile phone calls which were routed through the four mobile phone towers that cater to the location of the Tanishq showroom. The Chandigarh Police Crime Branch and Delhi Police teams were inspecting the same call-records data from which both the police forces zeroed in on eight mobile phone numbers. Two of these were functional. The Delhi police, owing to their better tracking and monitoring systems and intelligence about criminals active in Uttar Pradesh, managed to nab the first accused. The Chandigarh Police Crime Branch were also trailing the same person. The Delhi and Chandigarh Police then shared their information and managed to nab the other two accused, within hours of arresting Bhure Khan.
