All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) on Thursday said that the Parliamentary Standing Committee on energy should listen their views before submitting its report in Parliament. The standing committee on energy is yet to meet the AIPEF or any other such association employees seeking their views on the Electricity Amendment Bill 2022.
Reports suggest that the government plans to present the bill during the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament that will begin mid July. Power sector employees from across said that they will protest if the Union Ministry of Power attempts to rush through the bill unilaterally, said V K Gupta, spokesperson of AIPEF.
Earlier, in August 2022, the Electricity Amendment Bill, 2022, was introduced in the Lok Sabha. Soon after opposition, it was referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee.
The committee headed by BJP MP Jagadambika Pal has held 8 meetings as far as the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2022 is concerned. Till date, they have discussed the issue with Ministry of Power, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Ministry of Railways (Railway Board), CERC, Grid Controller of India, Forum of Regulators, SERC of Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh & Uttar Pradesh, Department of Power of Kerala & West Bengal Govt., CESC Ltd, NTPC Ltd, PGCIL Ltd, PTC India Ltd.
