Election to president of city unit of Youth Cong to be held this month

Elections will first be held at the booth level. There are 422 booths where the election will take place. Once the booth-level committees are made,the process of election to the state committee will be started,and the president of the city unit of the Youth Congress and other office-bearers will be elected.

Deepak Rathod,the election commissioner of the Indian Youth Congress,said the election of the state-level committee would be held at the end of the month. The date would be decided after seeing the number of nominations.

During the membership drive that preceded the elections,more than 12,000 new members were made. This would be the second election of the Youth Congress in the city after the current system was introduced.

Rathod said that by the third elections,the members would get used to this system. “Earlier,the office-bearers were nominated. With Rahul Gandhi introducing elections at the Youth Congress level,the aim is to ensure that people interested in serving others are the ones that get elected. Gradually,a cadre of new leaders will be ready,” he said.

The members of the Youth Congress raised some objections to the time given for filing nominations,claiming that more days be given for the purpose.

Another objection was that the polling booths,instead of just being at the Congress Bhawan,Sector 35,should be at different places so that the voters did not face any inconvenience.
