Education dept bows to protests,withdraws extension of timings of government school teachers

Bowing to the demand of the government school teachers,the UT Education Department on Thursday withdrew its decision of extending the working hours of the teachers from 2 pm to 2.40 pm and in case of evening classes from 5 pm to 5.40 pm.

The government teachers under the umbrella of Government Teachers Union (GTU) staged a protest on the fourth day against the issue at Shivalik View ground at Sector 17 at 3.30 pm. More than 1,000 teachers participated in the protest and demanded immediate withdrawal of the circular.

Later,an 11-member delegation headed by the GTU president Dr Vinod Sharma met the Director Public Instructions (DPI) (Schools) Upkar Singh and after the approval of Education Secretary V K Singh,the Administration withdrew the decision till further orders.

The GTU welcomed the decision of the higher authorities.
