Drunk youths throw stones at bus PANCHKULA: A group of 5-6 people,who were in an inebriated state,smashed the window panes of a Himachal roadways bus by pelting stones and attacked the driver,leaving him injured,late Wednesday night. According to police,they have seized the vehicle in which the accused were travelling . Police have registered a case of wrongful restraint and obstructing a public servant for carrying out his job. The bus that was on its way from Panchkula to Himachal Pradesh when it was attacked. Police said that the accused have been identified and a hunt to nab them is on. Man arrested for stealing Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police arrested a resident of Uttarakhand after he was allegedly caught red-handed for stealing a mobile phone and Rs 220 cash from a shop in Sector 27-C. According to police,Ajay,the accused,used to work in the same shop from where he allegedly committed the theft and was caught after Rakesh Khatri,another worker at the shop noticed his phone and cash missing from the shop on Wednesday evening. A case has been registered at the Sector 26 police station. Case of pick-pocketing registered Chandigarh: A resident of Sector 8-A alleged an unknown person picked his pocket on Wednesday during the Janmashtmi celebrations at Math Mandir in Sector 20. According to police,the victim was carrying Rs 39,500 in his pocket. A case of theft has been registered at the Sector 19 police station. Couple held for duping jeweller Chandigarh: A couple was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly duping a jeweller in Manimajra. According to police,the accused Surinder Pal and his wife Karamjit Kaur,on Tuesday,tried to sell a pair of copper earrings to the jeweller saying it was gold. The jeweller,Vineet Verma,suspected the accused and conducted a check on the earrings,which showed they were made of copper. A case of cheating and fraud and attempt to commit offences punishable with imprisonment has been registered at Manimajra police station. Traders committee meets Patil Chandigarh: The Joint Action Committee constituted by traders and industrialists in the city met the Punjab Governor and UT Administrator,Shivraj V Patil,on Thursday highlighting their demands. They claim that Patil assured them of reduction of the penalty on misuse that is being imposed. The penalty being charged at present is Rs 500 per sq feet.
