A private property in Mohali built reportedly using drug money became the face of the latest crackdown on drug trafficking and illegally acquired assets. Acting on the orders of the district administration, police along with local dignitaries demolished the property, which had been constructed on the GMADA land using drug money.
A team led by Harsimranjeet Singh Bal, DSP City-II, carried out the action against Bhagirath, a resident of Amb Sahib Colony, Jagatpura, Mohali. Police said investigations revealed that Bhagirath had built the house in his mother’s name with the proceeds of narcotics smuggling and used the premises as his headquarters for the illegal trade. The house was equipped with surveillance cameras to monitor police activity.
In addition to the demolition of this property, the Punjab Police also attached another house belonging to Bhagirath in IT City, along with an Innova car.
Police records show that Bhagirath has several criminal cases registered against him under the Arms Act, NDPS Act, and Punjab Excise Act.
“We want to send a clear message to the people of Punjab that those involved in drug trafficking or other illegal activities will face strict action. No offender will be spared, and properties acquired through illicit means will be seized or demolished as per law,” DSP Bal said.
