“I have been advised not to go on outings or post anything on social media or engage in political discussions,” a 21-year-old Chandigarh-based resident, who is studying in Canada, told The Indian Express amid a stand-off between India and Canada.

The student received the word of caution from his parents just like many other Chandigarh students who now live in Canada. It is worth mentioning, most students living in Canada usually go on outings by taking time off their busy schedule during the weekends.

The student, who lives in Surrey, on condition of anonymity said, “Our parents are anxious and have advised us to avoid outings. My parents have strictly asked me to stay away from confrontations.”

The student has been living in Canada for two years while his parents live in Panchkula Sector 7. “This feeling of uncertainty had never gripped me until now,” the student added

He further said, “My parents were about to visit me but now they have told me that they will wait for the situation to settle down as the scenario is gradually developing diplomatically.”

His friend and roommate, a resident of Chandigarh Sector 23, said, “Our professors in the University have also advised us to keep away from congregations. My friend in Brampton was telling me that they have been informed that it is better for those travelling back to India to quickly return to Canada as there may be Visa restrictions.”

Ridhi, who is pursuing a health care management course from Scarborough, a city in Ontario, is now in Chandigarh on a four-month University break. Speaking to The Indian Express, Ridhi said, “Although the situation is fine, due to the prevailing circumstances, I have asked my friend to check if my departure to Canada has to be brought forward.”
