The Deputy Commissioner S K Goyal said this step was taken to maintain peace in the district. He said the members of village Panchayat,Sikh organisations and even Shah Satnam Singh’s grandson had asked for the rejection of the permission. They handed over a memorandum to the DC,demanding a ban on the entry of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in Jalalana or any other Sikh-dominated village in the district.

Dera Sacha Sauda organises a congregation in Jalalana on January 12 every year.

However,it was not held last year due to the tension between Sikhs and the Dera followers.

A spokesman of Dera Sacha Sauda,Pawan Insan, said it is a direct attack on the democratic and fundamental rights of worship. He accused the District Administration for succumbing to the pressure of some anti-social elements. Denial of permission has hurt the sentiments of Dera followers,he said.
