Chandigarh Police on Tuesday night apprehended a 17-year-old for allegedly having stabbed and injured a minor who sold burgers at a roadside stall in Sector 25.
Police said both the apprehended juvenile and the minor who was stabbed both knew each other, while adding that they suspected that the incident may have been triggered over a monetary dispute. According to an investigator, the apprehended juvenile was upset as the victim, who is 16-year-old, had declined to give him a burger and had instead asked him to clear his previous dues at his shop.
This, the police officer said, led to an argument, which soon escalated with the suspect later picking up a knife from the stall and stabbing the victim. Some passersby intervened soon after and the police was informed. The injured boy was was rushed to GMSH-16, where he was admitted for treatment.
A police officer said, “The juvenile had tried to escape but was apprehended on the spot by the local. Later, he was handed over to the cops. He was apprehended and sent to the Juvenile Home, Sector 25. Both juveniles were known to each other and live in the same locality. The victim has so far told us that the juvenile who attacked him had been eating burgers from his shop for the past few days without paying for them” A case was registered at Police Station 11.
As per police data, so far this year at least 48 juveniles have been apprehended pertaining for different crimes in the UT.
