A day after whistleblower Parvinder Singh Jhota was released from Muktsar jail, the self-styled activist called for a ‘Jan Aandolan’ against drugs in Punjab.
Jhota was in Sidhana village to attend the cremation of Jasvir Singh, who died under mysterious circumstances on September 9. Jasvir was a member of the drug awareness committee in Sidhana village of Bathinda district and his cremation took place after a compromise was reached between his family and the Bathinda district administration.
The family was promised Rs 10 lakh compensation, free education for the minor child, and a library in Jasvir’s memory.
After attending the cremation, Jhota joined the ongoing dharna on the campus of the district administration complex (DAC) in Mansa.
Rajwinder Rana, convenor of the Nasha Virodhi Sanjha Action Committee (NVSAC), said, “Jhota’s release was one of ours demands and our battle against drugs will continue.”
Rana added that they provided a list of drug suppliers, including some police officers, to the Mansa police and were awaiting action against them.
Jhota added that he will continue his fight against synthetic drugs and corruption within the police force. He said that he was not afraid and will not rest until action is taken.
