Indefinite curfew clamped on Bhikhi entered the third day today. Curfew was relaxed twice during the day for three hours each, first at 6.30 am and then at 3.30 pm. We will re-assess the situation tomorrow to take our next call on curfew, said the SSP.
Besides affecting the lives of area residents, the curfew badly affected the functioning of a number of important facilities, prominent among them health and education.
Cops at various check points prevented our 11 staff members, including a medical officer, three staff nurses and three pharmacists, from reaching hospital on Monday. Despite showing the identity cards, the health employees were not allowed to reach the hospital, Bhikhi Senior Medical Officer Dr Baldev Singh Sahota told The Indian Express.
The cops also misbehaved with one of the nurses, who was accompanying a delivery patient to the hospital, alleged Dr Sahota.
Today,I decided to reach school when there was a relaxation of three hours in the curfew in the morning. I am not sure whether cops would allow me to enter the town after the school is closed, said Renu Bala,a resident of Bhikhi posted as Hindi Mistress at Government Middle School,Hamirgarh Dhaipai.
Mansa SSP Hardial Singh Mann said that everyone, whether in government or private job, needed to get special permission from administration to come out in curfew.
