A local court extended the custodial interrogation of Jitendar Lathar, accused of acting as agent in the CTU recruitment scams by two more days. While seeking police custody of the accused, the CBI urged the court to extend the period of custodial interrogation of Lathar,as they are yet to arrest the people whose names have surfaced during the investigations. Lathar has been in CBI custody since October 29.

As per the investigating agency,Lathar worked as a warden of Tihar jail and used to arrange students eager to clear the exam by paying huge amounts. Lathar, who is a resident of Sonepat, had arranged a number of impersonators who appeared for the entrance exam in place of actual candidates.

The CBI maintained that the accused acted as the organiser and used to arrange persons who would appear in place of the actual candidates in the exams.

The recruitment scam came to light on October 3,when the CBI had arrested a total of eight accused in case of impersonation during the CTU exam for conductors. Jitendar’s name had surfaced in the disclosures provided by Sandeep, who was one of the middlemen used to arrange brilliant students, provide accommodation and transport for them, and give them handsome amounts for writing exam for others.
