(Representative/ Express file photo) The Ropar mining department during a late-night raid Thursday seized four poclain machines and five tippers engaged in illegal sand mining near the Sava river in Punjab’s Sri Anandpur Sahib.
Executive engineer, mining, Rupinder Singh Pabla said that on the basis of a tip-off, the mining department and the police jointly conducted the raid. He said that after getting information regarding illegal mining in villages near the Sava river in Shri Anandpur Sahib, he informed deputy commissioner Dr Preeti Yadav and SSP Vivek S Soni.
“We used two private vehicles to conduct this raid, even police officers were in civil dress,” he added.
Pabla further said that all the accused managed to escape from the site by taking advantage of the darkness.
