The Court of District and Sessions Judge,Chandigarh,on Monday framed charges against Punjabi actor-model Gurvinder Singh,alias Sonu Bajwa,under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code. Bajwa who has acted in various Punjabi films and video albums was arrested by Chandigarh police on March 22 for allegedly assaulting a graduation student and attempting to rape her. The complainant,who a student at Government Medical College and Hospital Sector 32 filed a complaint against the accused for allegedly stalking her and trying to rape her on March 18. According to the complaint filed by the victim the accused also threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident. The complainant alleged that the accused called her on her mobile and told her that he wanted to meet her on March 18. The complainant refused to meet him. On the same day while she was returning from hospital the accused stopped her in the way and assaulted her and tried to rape her. The accused allegedly took the mobile and bag of the victim and sexually harassed her. When the victim told him that she would call the police he let her go. Following the incident,the victim filed a written complain with the sector 34 police. Police arrested the accused on March 22 for allegedly molesting and attempting to rape a girl and a case against him under relevant sections of the IPC was registered. He was produced before the district court where he was remended in judicial custody. He was granted bail on April 26. The accused has been charged under Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty),354(a) (sexual harassment,physical contact,advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures,or any other unwelcome physical,verbal or non-verbal conduct of sexual nature),506 ( Punishment for criminal intimidation),376 (Punishment for rape ) read with section 511 of the IPC (Punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) of the IPC.
