Couple withdraws protection plea; court accepts

The couple who had sought protection from a local court after marrying against their parents’ wishes,withdrew the protection application today. While the couple was not present in the court of District and Sessions Judge P L Ahuja,their counsel made the request on their behalf. The court accepted the request for withdrawal of the protection petition and the same was treated as dismissed as withdrawn.

The couple,Tejinder (22) and Sonia (20),who had got married at a temple in Sector 12 on September 11,had filed an application seeking protection from the girl’s family members who were opposed to the match. The court directed the district police to provide them protection till September 27 and ordered the couple to furnish documents like a rent deed. The couple had claimed to be staying on rent near Nada Saab gurdwara.

Police say that when they went to the address given by them to verify the claims,the owner of the house,Baljinder Kaur,denied that the couple ever stayed there. “The address was found to be fake. Also after a scuffle that took place between the girl’s family members and her counsel,the couple never approached us,” stated Inspector Jangsher Singh,station house officer (SHO) of Chandimandir police station. He informed that the couple did not seek cover for a day after that.

Meanwhile,the couple’s counsel,Vikram Chauhan,said that the family had “reached” a compromise following which he gave his representation for withdrawal. “The couple is not in touch with me since the case but I was communicated by one of their relatives that things are well at their end,” he said. Sonia,a resident of Yamunanagar,and Tejinder,who is from Dera Bassi,had got married after having an affair for about a year. Both of them belong to the Gujjar community.
