Councillors back out of MC study tour

Councillors of the Municipal Corporation have refused to go on a study tour proposed by the civic body.

Councillors of the Municipal Corporation have refused to go on a study tour proposed by the civic body. Some BJP councillors refused outright to go on the on the tour, while most of the others have not come forward to give their preferences for destinations they would like to go to. Apart from one councillor,no one has informed the civic body about the destination.

Three locations were shortlisted for the study tours. It was proposed that one group of councillors could go to Jalandhar-Amritsar-Srinagar,the a second would visit Kolkata-Darjeeling,while a third would visit Surat-Mumbai. It was proposed that issues like more powers to the Municipal Corporation and sanitation practices could be studied at these places.

BJP councillors, however, refused to go on the study tours. Councillor Satinder Singh was among the first to give his refusal. He had stated that he would focus on development in his ward rather than study tours that are being proposed. Thereafter some other BJP councillors also refused to go on the tour. The councillors felt that instead of tours, development work in their wards should be executed at the earliest. The fate of the study tour is now uncertain.

Previous plans to organize such study tours on the part of the civic body have also not met with an encouraging response. The majority of the proposals have never been implemented. The few that have never got executed.
