Five days after a newborn baby was stolen from General Hospital,Panchkula, the police recovered him from Sanaur in Patiala,Punjab,on Saturday afternoon. The cops also arrested the two women who had allegedly stolen the baby. The two accused were identified as 35-year-old Nisha and her domestic help Rekha, both residents of Sanaur,Patiala. The police are also looking for a third accused Gurvinder,a resident of Rampur Kalan,Punjab, who had helped Nisha ferry the baby from hospital to her home in his car. We are questioning the two to know the motive behind the kidnapping, said Kalka Additional Commissioner Police (ACP) Krishan Kumar who headed the team of officers that investigated the case. It will be premature to say anything about the motive at this time. Our first priority was to find the baby and we have been successful in this. The new-born baby of the Panchkula couple was stolen by two women from the General Hospital on the intervening night of last Monday and Tuesday. The police had registered a case of kidnapping and cheating against two unidentified women and also released a sketch of the accused. They said that Nisha was staying at a rented house in Baltana,Mohali, with her domestic help for the last four years. Nisha is a graduate and well-versed in computers. She was married in 2005 and has a five-year-old daughter. Police sources said that when the investigating team barged into Nishas house at Sanaur today, she was lying in bed and pretending confidently that the baby was her own. But soon she broke down and accepted that she had stolen the boy. Her domestic help, who too was present in house, was arrested along with Nisha, said the sources. After initial questioning,it looks like she had stolen the baby boy to adopt him. Police sources said that the breakthrough in the case was mainly due to human intelligence and the sketch that was released by them. Apart from intelligence inputs, the sketch that we had released helped us to a great extent. After the accused was identified,we raided her Baltana room but found her missing. We managed to trace her at her Sanaur address last night. And finally this afternoon we were able to arrest the two accused and recover the baby, said a police officer who was part of the investigations. The family of the new-born was informed by the police at around 5 pm that the baby had been recovered. I am happy that I have gotten my baby back. After he was stolen,I never lost hope and today he is with me and my family, said the mother Meena.
