The Creators are back with their annual show, and this year ten artists have showcased their latest works, which include both paintings and sculptures. Established in 1981,The Creators is a group of painters,sculptors,print-makers and applied artists, and is engaged in promoting artistic activities in the region and giving young artists a platform to display their work.
Various themes, mediums, expressions define the works which form the group exhibition. Bright and arresting in both theme and colours,Shiv Singhs paintings in water colours are a visual delight, the essential theme being Fire in Forest. Vandy Jais series of works in acrylics are on the theme of rocks. In varied shapes, sizes and colours,Jais uses different strokes to create the rocks. The artist says her paintings reveal a departure from reality in depiction of imagery in art. Abstraction exists along a continuum, says Jais with a smile. HS Purewal in his imitable style paints the glory of nature on canvas,be it the orange blossoms or the green fields.
Sukhvinder Singhs works, inspired by nature are absorbing in both theme and texture. The artist uses charcoal, ink, pencil on hand-made sheets to create water, mountains, woods and faces. Dalvinder Singh is inspired by Chandigarh and its planned structure to create slopes, landscapes and the greenery that defines the city. Done in gorgeous greens and oranges,Singhs works are defined by movement created with colours.
The sculptures by Basudeb Biswas are mostly in metal, and the showstopper here is Narinderjeet Maloyas work in steel titled Busiest Machine, which depicts ants at work. BC Prasads works are defined by a deep emotion,as he depicts the emotions of security,poverty,man-woman relationships in his paintings.
