Following the dissemination of objectionable material, including a hoarding and a press release, by Congress MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary from the Phillaur Assembly segment in Jalandhar, targeting his own party’s candidate and former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, for the Lok Sabha election from Jalandhar seat, the Congress party has taken disciplinary action against him. Chaudhary has been suspended from all party positions and responsibilities due to his repeated anti-party statements, despite prior warnings.

Devender Yadav, the in-charge of Punjab, Parliament member, and CWC member, issued a letter stating, “Your unrestrained statements, which deviate from party guidelines, tarnish the dignity of your position and harm the party’s image. Despite multiple warnings, your engagement in anti-party activities persists. Therefore, until further action is taken, you are suspended from the party and relieved of all your current positions.” Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary has been critical of Charanjit Singh Channi since the latter became active in Jalandhar ahead of the Lok Sabha elections and subsequently received the party’s ticket.

Chaudhary had sought the ticket for his family, particularly for his mother Karamjit Kaur, who contested the 2023 bye-election following the death of Santokh Singh Chaudhary, the sitting Lok Sabha MP for Jalandhar and father of Vikramjit Singh. Expressing disappointment with the party’s decision, Chaudhary’s war of words against Channi escalated, especially after Karamjit Kaur joined the BJP.

Referring to Vikram as “Duryodhan,” Channi insinuated that Vikram’s downfall was a consequence of his own actions, particularly involving his mother’s defection to the BJP. In response, Chaudhary labeled Channi “Shakuni mama.”

Chaudhary accused Channi of moral corruption, citing allegations of misconduct and inappropriate behavior towards a female IAS officer. He questioned the ethical grounds of Congress leaders campaigning for Channi, asserting that Channi’s past misdeeds would make it challenging for them to convince female voters.

Furthermore, Chaudhary unveiled hoardings across Jalandhar warning the public about Channi’s alleged misdeeds and questioned the integrity of Congress leaders supporting him. He highlighted Channi’s tarnished reputation and asserted that his true character was now evident to the constituents of Jalandhar.

“His latest image is viral and is in everyone’s phone. With such a disgraceful past, how can Congress leaders convince female voters to vote for Channi ji? It’ll be hard for the leaders themselves to vote for a habitual women offender like him on June 1st,” said Vikramjit.

MLA Chaudhary said while Channi’s poll managers were dreaming of ‘Channi di lehar in Jalandhar shehar’, the slogan among the women is ‘ghar ghar de vich challi gall, Channi karda gandi gall’, adding that Channi’s true face and shady character was now known to everyone in Jalandhar constituency.

Following Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary’s suspension, he stated in an interview with a TV channel that he intends to reiterate the questions he had previously raised about Channi before the party. “In the coming days, I will visit every part of the constituency and inform the people about the realities of Channi,” he said.

Chaudhary highlighted Channi’s electoral defeats on two seats during the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections when he served as Punjab Chief Minister.

He further alleged that investigative agencies like the ED and Vigilance are pursuing Channi and accused him of “me too”. Expressing frustration, Chaudhary claimed that senior party leaders in Punjab are powerless, and tickets are being awarded to individuals who previously contested on AAP tickets against Congress candidates.

He criticised the party for rewarding such individuals while suspending those, like himself, who raise legitimate concerns. Chaudhary emphasized his grandfather, Master Gurbanta Singh, a former Punjab minister, who he claimed had significantly contributed to the upliftment of their community and the downtrodden. He questioned Channi’s contributions in comparison.

When questioned about his personal motivations due to not receiving the ticket, Chaudhary responded, “I have conveyed to the party that if they don’t want to give us the ticket, then please consider other local leaders like Mohinder Singh Kay Pee. Instead, they are endorsing individuals like Channi, who face allegations of ‘me too’.”

Furthermore, Chaudhary expressed his belief that Rahul Gandhi is surrounded by individuals who hinder his progress toward his desired goals.
