Cong debates reduced civic poll seat-share

Heated discussions took place about the distribution of tickets during the elections as well as the need for better organisation.

Three months after the results of the elections of the Municipal Corporation were announced,the Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC) held a meeting today to introspect the reasons behind the losses the party suffered. Heated discussions took place about the distribution of tickets during the elections as well as the need for better organisation.

Congress office bearers,councillors as well as other leaders were present at the meeting. During the municipal elections held in November last year,the Congress bagged 11 seats in the 35-member House. The number came down from 15 councillors that the party had in the previous term. The reasons were discussed at the meeting.

The party leaders stated that there was a need to strengthen the organisational structure and the party workers given more say in the functioning. It was decided to strengthen the worker base and make block presidents more active.

It was also opined that the problems of the people of Chandigarh need to be taken up in a better manner. Congress leaders stated that the Administration was unresponsive to the problems of the people and suitable action needed to be taken. Resentment was shown to the distribution of tickets during the elections.

President of the party B B Bahl said that it was decided that a list of problems of the city residents would be prepared and given to the Union Minister and local MP Pawan Bansal for suitable action. He added that the Administration was not responsive to the problems of residents. The ward committees would take up the issues.
