If killers of democracy could be punished, entire BJP will be hanged: CM Bhagwant Mann

This came a week after the Supreme Court handed over the control of services, excluding those related to police, public order and land, to the elected government in Delhi.

In a tweet in Hindi, Mann said, “If there was a provision for punishment for the murderers of democracy in the Indian Constitution, then the entire BJP could have been hanged…” The tweet was seen as an attack on the Centre over the issue.

In another tweet in Punjabi, he said, “Let the country be run by 30-31 governors and a prime minister… What is the use of spending crores (of rupees) on elections?”

He said that the saffron party had killed the basic spirit of democracy by muzzling the voice of opposition in an undemocratic manner. He said that these leaders have caused irreparable damage to the ethos of democracy in the country which is very dangerous for the entire country and its people. He said that had the Constitution of India enshrined any punishment for this unpardonable crime then the entire BJP leadership would have hanged till death.

Mann said that BJP leaders have shown grave disrespect to the fathers of Indian constitution especially Babasaheb Dr BR Ambedkar by assaulting democratic values. He said that this has bruised the psyche of every countryman, who has deep faith in the democratic set up and the Constitution of the country. Mann said that people of the country will never forgive BJP for this sinister move and will give a befitting answer to them.

Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party Punjab chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang also attacked the Centre, dubbing the ordinance move as “sheer defiance” of the Supreme Court order.

Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha also tweeted. “Is the ordinance less about stripping Delhi Government of its powers and more about cutting judiciary to size,” he asked.

Ordinance by the GoI highlights the power-hungry nature of the central government. They have little regard for justice that was provided by the Hon’ble SC. Delhi’s development will not stop, and its democratically elected govt under @Arvindkejriwal Ji will continue the good work.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said “the ordinance highlights the power-hungry nature of the central government. They have little regard for justice that was provided by the Hon’ble SC.
