The city unit of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) announced its merger with the Congress at a function held in Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan,Sector 35,on Tuesday. After the merger,NCP President Gurbachan Singh said he along with his party activists and workers had joined the party fold for saving Chandigarh from people who were all out to grab power for their ulterior motives. Welcoming the merger,Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee President BB Bahl remarked that neither Congress nor its candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal needed any certificate from the Opposition of the work that had been done under their tenure. The residents are aware of what Bansal has done. His victory with a wide margin of votes is certain, said Bahl. Bansal said that the merger was a direct message to the electorate that people had full faith in the Congress. Meanwhile,Bansal addressed a series of meetings in various sectors including 46,35 C,25,19 and undertook door-to-door campaigning in Khuda Lahora, the Sector-7 market and Manimajra. Bansal was weighed against ladoos at the Sector-7 market where he called upon the people to vote for the person who has proof of work to show rather than hollow claims. During his padyatra in Khuda Lahora Colony,Bansal urged residents to vote judiciously as their mandate was the key to their welfare and they had to make the right choice. Intensifying his election campaign at Manimajra,Bansal urged residents and shopkeepers to vote for him. Meanwhile,Bahl said projects of building a college, hospital, stadium and a banquet hall were in the pipeline and all efforts will be made to beautify the area.
