CHANDIGARH: With the increase in supply of onions, the prices that had shot up in the last few days have started coming down. The wholesale prices ,which were at a high of Rs 70-80 per kg,came down to Rs 60.
While wholesale prices have dropped by Rs 10,retail prices continue to be at Rs 70-80 per kg.
A trader at the grain market in Sector 26 said,With less supply of onions we had to increase prices. But now in the past two days, the supply has increased a bit, which is why we decreased prices.
Till two days ago onions were being sold at Rs 65-70 per kg at the wholesale rates. However, now onions cost Rs 60 per kg. Till we receive the fresh stock from Nasik, the prices are likely to remain the same, said another trader. Many of the retailers said they would lower the prices only when the supply would be in excess.
Meanwhile, the counter set up by Chandigarh Market Committee for residents to buy onions at Rs 55 per kg every day is attracting a huge crowd.
