Citibank fraud: Main accused’s parents say cops ignored other suspects

The counter affidavit was filed by Raghuraj during the resumed hearing of an anticipatory bail filed by him. Also,Deeksha Puri,wife of Raghuraj Puri who has also been accused of colluding with Shivraj Puri in committing the multi-crore fraud,has alleged that the allegations against them are “false,fabricated,concocted and leveled with the intention to harass them”.

Deeksha Puri’s anticipatory bail application is also pending adjudication before the High Court. The couple have alleged that they have been made accused in the case only because they are parents of Shivraj Puri. Contending on behalf of Raghuraj,senior advocate Chetan Mittal contended that “he is having incomplete account statements and few entries show that the payments have come from different accounts and equal amount has gone out of the account”.

Stating that “such large scale cannot taken place without the connivance of a senior officer”,Mittal averred that “it is highly improbable that for one last year there were many transactions worth crores of rupees from different accounts of Citibank and no other person from the bank had any knowledge about these transactions except the son of the petitioner who is just a relationship manager in the bank”.

He added that in order to “save their skin,the bank is leveling allegations against the duo that they have colluded with the accused Shivraj Puri”.

Raghuraj has further contended in his counter affidavit that he has come to know that “on account of allegations found to be prima facie true in respect of the involvement of bank officials of the Citibank the bank has started paying back to the investors”.

Raghuraj has added that he has nothing to do with the business of Shivraj Puri and was “alien” to the share market business.

Shivraj Puri had launched a fictitious scheme on behalf of Citibank where investors were assured a certain high return without the knowledge of the bank. Deeksha Puri in her anticipatory bail application has taken the plea that “she is only 11th pass and a housewife and has no knowledge to operate the bank accounts”. Raghuraj and Deeksha had moved a local Court seeking anticipatory bail but the Court had turned down their bails.
