Chandigarh to take on Patiala in final

The inevitable happened. And as expected Mohali could not stop Chandigarh from entering the final of the Punjab State Inter District Under-16 Tournament for M.L. Markan Trophy after Chandigarh took a giant first innings lead of 183 runs. The Chandigarh batting clicked which helped them defeat Mohali on the basis of first innings lead in the semi-final match played at PCA stadium on Saturday. They will now meet Patiala in the final.

Resuming from their overnight score of 365 for 7 in 111 overs,the lower order added vital 70 runs before they were bowled out for 435 in 151.3 overs in their first innings in reply to Mohali’s first innings score of 252 runs. Kapil Punia,batting overnight on 46,scored 94 runs,while Saurabh contributed 30 runs. Amish Sidhu emerged as the most successful bowler with four wickets for 101 runs. Jasinder Singh and Manish Srivastava both picked up two wickets each.

Needing 183 runs to make Chandigarh bat again,Mohali were 121 for 3 in 39 overs in their second innings at the end of the play as Chandigarh sauntered into the final. Pukhraj could not convert his good start into a big total as he was out after making 44 runs. Anmoljeet remained unbeaten on 29,while Kinderpreet Singh scored 27 runs. Aditya,Arpit Singh and Sourabh picked up one wicket each.

Prabhjot,Siddharth help Patiala win

ROPAR were hit hard by a superb unbeaten double century by Prabhjot (255 not out in 562 balls) and Karan Kaila’s century (122 in 229 balls) as Patiala romped home with an emphatic innings and 479 runs win over them to enter the final after defeating them in the semi-final match played in Patiala.

Resuming from their overnight score of 496 for 8,the Patiala batsmen added 98 runs losing only one wicket before declaring their innings at 594 for 9 in 214.4 overs. Prabhjot was the star of the match as he remained unbeaten on 255. He struck 28 boundaries during his knock.

Meanwhile,Karan’s superb century consisted of 17 boundaries,while Vikrant contributed 57 runs. Jaideep was the most successful bowler with 4 for 83. Sukhjinder scalped 2 for 93.

Trying to avoid an innings defeat,Ropar batsmen failed to get going as they were bundled out for just 66 runs in 41.4 overs. Siddharth was the pick of the bowlers as he took five wickets to leave the batting team in a precarious situation. Sahil top scored with 30 runs.
