The Chandigarh State Cooperative Bank Limited has approved a reservation of 85 per cent of jobs for residents of the city. The move was finalised during a high-level board meeting chaired by Satinderpal Singh Sidhu, chairman, Chandigarh State Cooperative Bank Limited. According to the resolution passed by the Board of Directors, 15 per cent of the reserved 85 per cent quota will be exclusively earmarked for original inhabitants of Chandigarh’s villages. The reservation policy will be applicable across all forms of recruitment — regular, contractual, part-time, and outsourced positions — making it a comprehensive employment safeguard for local candidates. For the remaining 15 per cent of the positions, preference will be extended to eligible candidates from other states, particularly Punjab and Haryana. Officials said this move addresses a long-standing concern that local youth often miss out on employment opportunities, despite Chandigarh serving as the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana. Since the city is a Union Territory and administratively separate, local candidates are not always given preferential consideration in jobs — a gap the bank has now resolved to bridge. The Board also approved the bank’s new loan policy, aimed at streamlining credit access and supporting borrowers more effectively. Additionally, it sanctioned the upgradation of the Sector-22 branch, which will soon undergo enhancements to improve customer service and operational efficiency.
