Parambir Singh Dhola, 19, a national-level shooter and the main accused in an accident case that killed three people in Chandigarh on the night of May 17, was remanded in police custody for one more day on Tuesday.

He was produced in the Judicial Magistrate First Class court of Jaspreet Singh Minhas as his two-day police custody ended Tuesday. The police urged the court to grant three more days of custody, but it allowed only one day.

The defence counsel of Parambir, advocate Terminder Singh, opposed the police remand application arguing that the shooter was already in two days of police custody and the investigation was completed. The defence counsel claimed that there was a blind curve at Dhanas-Sarangpur road hence the driver Parambir lost his balance and met with an accident.

The police demanded the remand on the ground to collect Parambir’s call detail record (CDR) on the day of road accident to match his route and presence on the scene of crime, to ascertain the name of people who had assisted him during his hideouts etc. The police told the court that the woman, who was travelling with Parambir Singh, was identified as Raman. Her full statement is also yet to record. Police informed the court that accused Parambir was identified by the complainant, on whose statement an FIR of culpable homicide not amounting to murder registered against him.

The court asked the police to produce a summary report of the last two days mentioning what they did with his custody till now. Meanwhile, family members of accused Parambir including his father, Kamaljeet Singh, were also present in the court.

Parambir, a resident of Sector 21 in Panchkula, was returning from Chandigarh Police shooting range, Sector 25, along with a woman friend, when his Volkswagen Beetle car ran over seven people on the Dhanas-Sarangpur dividing road last Wednesday.

A vendor Rajvati Devi died on the spot. Two others — Mustafa Ali and Vimlesh Devi — succumbed to injuries during treatment at the PGI hospital.
